Stones for the Root Chakra
There are many Crystals that support the root chakra, some of the best known include Brown Jasper, Red Jasper, Smoky Quartz, Hematite, Cuprite, Mahogany Obsidian, Tourmaline, Rhodonite, Garnet and Bloodstone. In general, red stones and crystals are associated with the root chakra. Black stones and crystals too are thought to provide the stability and protection needed to support the root chakra.
About the Root Chakra
The Base or Root Chakra is the 1st of the 7 Chakras. It represents our most basic needs and desires, our safety and security. The base chakra is our need for physical and emotional safety - and energy! It is our foundation, from where we can then address our more complex emotions and higher thinking. Crystal healing for the root chakra can be as simple as placing these crystals on your lower back. Or place them in your pocket while gardening, going for a walk or doing anything that connects you to nature. The root chakra likes nature! Mahogany Obsidian

Onyx
Clean black with a smooth shape. A mysterious stone with a mixed and ancient reputation. It was the first stone to be mentioned in the Bible, in Genesis. This stone was thought to be a powerful protector and sharpen the senses and physical responses. Perfect for the Root Chakra, our want for safety and source of physical energy.
Garnet
Garnet's red color is in harmony with the color ray of the root chakra and it provides emotional stability and helps us satisfy our need for belonging. Garnet is unique in its ability to bridge or synchronize the energies of the body. Garnet stimulates both the base and crown charkas, enabling the free flow of energy. Greek mythology mentions Garnet as a stone that can heal emotional rifts between lovers through divine influence.
Bloodstone
The dark color of certain Bloostone types is in sync with the root chakra. Bloodstone has been seen has a source of vitality and physcial energy. Called Heliotrope, the Sun Stone, by the ancient Greeks. They believed that when immersed in water, it turned the reflection of the sun to blood-red. Its use for healing and connection to blood/detoxification of the organs dates back five thousand years to Mesopotamia.
Tourmaline (Black Tourmaline)
Black Tourmaline has been used throughout history as a stone for protection and as a shield against negative spirits or destructive forces. This security is ideal for the base chakra and it is one of the most common stones used for providing stable, grounding energy and cleansing the root chakra.
